She worked with her husband and two sons in their family owned newspaper business and published the Cottonwood Current. Health problems affecting her husband, Bill, and her two sons, increasingly drained their finances and placed a heavier burdon on Mabel, both at the newspaper and caring for her family. Milton Hackett writes, ". . . Mabel Dahl Sisson died, ostensibly of a stroke. Her life had the overtones of a Greek tragedy. Attractive, intelligent, and talented, seemingly with everything going for her, she died of hard work and a broken heart, grieving for the future of her crippled (muscular dystophy) boys.
