      War. He received the Medal of Honor at Antietam.

      Hillary Beyer was born 28 September 1837 at Norristown, Pennsylvania, son of Emanuel Beyer. He enlisted as a private of Company A, 90th Pennsylvania Infantry 17 September 1861 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to serve three years and was mustered as a sergeant, same company, to rank from date of enlistment. He was appointed Second Lieutenant, Company H, to rank from 1 September 1862 and promoted to First Lieutenant, same company, to rank from 24 November 1863. Honorably discharged 26 November 1864. Later served as Chairman, Memorial Committee of the Gettysburg Battlefield Association. He died 24 September 1907 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is interred at Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Norristown, Pennsylvania.

      HILLARY BEYER
      Second Lieutenant, Company H, 90th Pennsylvania Infantry at Antietam Creek, near Sharpsburg, Maryland, 17 September 1862. Citation: Distinguished gallantry in having, after his command had been forced to fall back, remained alone on the field of battle, caring for his wounded men and carrying one to a place of safety. Highest rank: First Lieutenant. Medal was issued 30 October 1896 as a result of his personal application and sent to him by certified mail, which was the usual procedure at the time.
