      Basil R. Egert, 81, of Geneseo, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.

      Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded by Geneseo American Legion Post 350. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where a scripture service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Memorials may be left to Geneseo Relay for Life.

      Basil R. Egert was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Lorraine Township, the son of Bernard and Elfie Remme Egert. He attended Kemmis Grade School and was a graduate of Prophetstown High School. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, as an X-ray technician at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Corona, Calif. He married Mildred ``Milly'' Anderson Jan. 22, 1948, in Geneseo. She died April 18, 2004.

      He operated the Studebaker dealership in Geneseo from 1949 to 1954. He was club pro/greens keeper at Geneseo Country Club from 1955 to 1959. He was employed by Bob and Stan Bestor as the manager of the Deck Oil Company, Geneseo, from 1959, until retirement in 1976.

      After retirement, he worked at Maple Bluff Golf Course. He was a lifetime member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church and American Legion Post 350. He was an accomplished golfer winning the Richmond Memorial Championship in 1962 and 1975. He set a long-standing course record of 63 at Geneseo Country Club in 1973. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and making and repairing golf clubs.

      Survivors include his son and wife, Allen and Becky Egert, Greenville, S.C.; granddaughter and husband, Erika and Randall Hulse, Matthews, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Spencer and Harrison; and sisters, Mary Strohman, Hillsdale, Dorothy Crandall, Prophetstown, and Lois Drummet, Prophetstown. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Aaron, in 1964; and brothers, Arlyn and Lester.
